✊How to protect yourself against the Trump Administration
Politics for Progressives, a weekly newsletter
What is Politics for Progressives?
Hey friends, the goal of this newsletter is shifting. I want to be able to give you bite-sized opinions about current news, practical tips and tricks, as well as resources in everything I write. This is a format I’ve came up with, and I get no complaints - then I will probably stick to this format. I hope this is more accessible for you!
🫀The Political Pulse
This week, we’ve seen Trump forcefully infiltrate the Capitol city of the United States for his political gain, using the excuse of crime to do so. He is targeting everyday people and in particular immigrants - which was expected - despite crime in Washington D.C. being at it’s lowest numbers in decades.
This matters for many reasons. One, it’s the city where the government functions - meaning he has immense power to pressure political movements to happen if he controls the city. It also gives him a proving ground for whether he can do this in other areas of the country, particularly in NYC if Zohran Mamdani wins.
It’s a fascist move, and I am keeping my D.C. friends in my thoughts. This is a good time to think about your strategy at home of what you’ll do in this situation, as well as a good reminder to keep your online and physical privacy and security in tip top shape.
⚔️The Survival Strategy
Our survival tip this time is going to be really simple. Make some basic changes to your online privacy, and ensure you have an escape plan if you are an individual that may be at risk of persecution by the current Trump Administration. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Using services like Signal for messaging, Proton Mail for when you need to send encrypted email, having a password manager like Bitwarden or Proton Pass so you have advanced passwords that *even you don’t know* are becoming essential in this climate. As for physical, the 2nd amendment exists and I think we should acknowledge that option, but more so just have a bag that if everything goes to shit, you can grab and go.
