The slow pull towards fascism
Backsliding always comes at a difference pace. It will catch up with us if we let it.
Banning books, stripping rights from transgender folks, and making it harder than ever to own a home is not a sign of a thriving democracy. On the contrary, it is a sign of natural capitalist degradation.
The erosion of the systems put in place- held by shoestrings and welfare spending so inefficient that even by spending more on healthcare than other OECD nation, we still have bad health outcomes.
It’s not fair, it’s not effective, and it needs to be stopped.
Of course, we all know how that went.
Nazi Germany became too inefficient and became a staunch defender of inequality and racial/ethnic oppression in order to please the ruling class.
Capitalism left to its natural devices leads to fascism.
There is, however, and alternative.
The dreaded socialism! I’m not here to tell you how it would work in full practice, however I can tell you that markets that have companies with cooperative, democratic systems in place by default would be a good step in the right direction. We can’t let Social Democracy win either, because while Europe looks great, the Global South suffers for that success. When I say we need democracy, we need it all across the globe.
Fight for peace through protest and media (yes, this counts), organize your workplace or form a tenant’s union, do everything in your power to push for a better tomorrow for the citizens of the world!
