Weekend Whispers: Don't Ignore the Red States
In my new 500-word-and-under weekend series, I talk about a topic interesting me that week. This week? The Democratic Party actively opposes progress in the red states such as Mississippi.
The DNC Is Scared
Democrats run away from ruby red states such as Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. We famously been ignored by the national Democratic Party. Look at this donation list:
This is mostly consisting of people from the state of Mississippi, so where is the money to actually run grassroots campaigns?
Not here.
Mike Espy beat the DNC
Mike Espy, a Democrat who ran for Senate twice and lost both times to Cindy-Hyde Smith, raised more money alone than the DNC gave us in the deal!
If Mike can do this, why can’t the Democratic Party give us more funding for infrastructure in the state? It’s simple: they prioritize purple states because it’s cheaper. Why fix Mississippi when Georgia is down the road?
The party sees no reason to help us. I disagree.
Race and Age
Mississippi has a 39% black population.
Pew Research Center says 76% of black people in Mississippi lean Democrat. That is an unbelievable amount of untapped potential.
Along with this, we have the young people (such as me) in the state working daily to fix it. If the Democrats gave us the funding we deserved, I have no doubt the liberal population of Mississippi could overtake the Conservative supermajority we currently have.
I say all this to say, Democrats: Fund the Ruby Red States.
