Why the vote in Mississippi is segregated
Whites vote Republican at a rate of ninety percent. Why?
Mississippi has one of, if not the most segregated voting blocks in America.
94% of Black people vote Democrat. 90% of White people vote Republican.
Why is it this way? Well, many would argue, that it is because Mississippi lacks one (literally) massive thing: a city.
I mean seriously, look at any other state and they will have a city larger, better funded, and ready for people to flock to.
Jackson has recently come to light in the public, not due to positive metrics, but the fact that the water is brown in a United States capital city. Of course, many conservatives have blamed that on the Democrats controlling the city— I disagree.
Jackson is controlled by the Democrats because the Republican lawmakers refuse to live there.
Almost everything in this state is held by a Republican, so it figures that they would never want to help out a city like Jackson. Thats why, if you look 20 minutes down the road, you’ll find Madison. Madison seems to get a lot more development than Jackson down the road. It also just so happens to have a 85% white population. Odd.
What this state needs is extreme reform. The rural part of this state is important to the people that live here- but it leads to brain drain when you don’t give the college educated students a place to use their expertise.
We need a revived Jackson, a true capital. A metro city taken care of by the state government for the future of the state.
If progress is to be made, then we must stop the redlining being imposed on the Black community by the Mississippi lawmakers.
